I have
always loved to attend the weddings, and wished to attend a Punjabi wedding all
my life. I had a chance to visit a Punjabi wedding with a friend of mine whose
cousin was getting married. I was literally stumped by the extravagance and the
pomp of the wedding celebrations. The bride looked magnificent and so were the
other female family members. I loved the way the bridal trousseau and jewelry was
designed.
Traditionally,
the main wedding dress for a Punjabi bride is salwar suit with Phulkari and Gota work,
paired with matching jutties. Usually,
the duppata is heavily embroidered and
has some gorgeous work with silken threads. However, the bride preferred to
wear designer lehenga for her big day and she looked stupendous! The lehenga
had some unique beads and Swarovski crystal work and included gold and silver
threads, which imparted it a royal look.
Although
such lehenga are available in a wide range of colours, such as reds, pinks and
greens, but the bride experimented with her wedding trousseau and wore one with
dark blue and fuchsia tone. She avoided those big jewelry pieces and wore a
single piece necklace made up of diamonds, as well as big diamond danglers, and
added sheer grace to her wedding dress.
The wedding jewelry contributed to her look and
transformed her from the simple and a girl next door to a blushing and
beautiful bride. She wore bangles matching to her lehenga, while a
delicate anklet beautified her even more! Although Punjabi brides usually do
not wear toe-rings, but her preferred wearing beautiful studded toe rings,
which matched her wedding trousseau. Her hands and feet were painted with henna
and certainly, she looked picture-perfect
epitome of beauty.
